The event space, donated by Samy Mahfar of SMA Equities, comprises approximately 3,500 square feet on two floors, including, including a 2,000-square-foot ground level open area.
The event is to raise funds for some of 4heads’ free annual programs, including the Governors Island Art Fair (GIAF), the Portal Show, 4heads Arts Educational Outreach and 4heads Artists in Residence Program. The organization’s fundraising goal for the evening is between $14,000 and $16,000 net.
“This is an important group because it supports the arts at a grass-roots level by introducing many young, local artists to benefactors and collectors,” points out Mr. Mahfar. “Our firm has long strived to support the artist community, especially on the Lower East Side, and we are glad to be able to offer the kind of space that can significantly contribute to the success of these fundraisers.”
At “Year X of 4heads and GIAF” will be a silent art auction highlighting the works of 20 emerging artists. In addition, there will be live music by Sunnyside Social Club, DJ Mr. Fine Wine, performance art by Muffinhead, and a photo booth from Ventiko. Already signed up to provide refreshments are Austin East Cider, Fine and Raw Chocolate, Kevin’s Narragansett, 44’ North Vodka, and Two Boots Pizza.
Omer Zwickel of SMA Equities notes, “It takes a concerted effort by many to bring it all together and 4heads consistently delivers for the community. It’s been a pleasure to know them and understand how they work to contribute to the artists collective and it’s no surprise that so many artists band with them. It’s a very exciting time when they bring us together in the Lower East Side.”
The upcoming event is the third 4heads fundraiser to be held in a space donated by SMA Equities and Samy Mahfar, who also serves on the organization’s Host Committee. An earlier benefit was held at 104 Delancey Street.
Adds Antony Zito of 4heads Inc. “We are always careful to keep our events respectable and to be aware of sound issues. We do hire a security team to oversee the event, too.”
Tickets for the 4heads spring benefit and art auction are being sold for $85 each on the 4heads website at http://www.4heads.org/benefit/
